Defined as the center-to-center distance between adjacent microbolometer pixels on the infrared focal plane array (FPA), it is measured in micrometers (µm). The selection of pixel pitch directly determines the module’s spatial resolution, thermal sensitivity, detection range, physical size, power consumption and overall cost. A mismatched pixel pitch will lead to insufficient imaging detail, poor temperature measurement accuracy, or excessive cost and volume waste.

NETD (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference, unit: mK / millikelvin) is defined as the target-background temperature difference that produces an output signal equal to the RMS temporal noise of the camera pixel, the core metric for thermal sensitivity. Standard measurement follows ASTM E1543, VDI/VDE 5585 industrial standards, relying on a precision temperature-controlled blackbody radiation source as uniform IR reference target.

NETD (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference), measured in millikelvins (mK), is the key parameter for evaluating the thermal sensitivity of thermal imaging cameras. It refers to the minimum temperature difference a camera can detect against inherent system noise. As a vital performance metric, NETD directly governs the imaging quality, detection accuracy and environmental adaptability of thermal cameras.
